I am glad to have the opportunity on 2nd of December 2021, to discuss (as moderator) the complex and wide topic of goods classification and the peculiarities of the process of proving the correct and appropriate classification of goods in Lithuania at the 5th Customs Practitioners Conference<\/strong> (in Kaunas, Lithuania) organized together with practitioners form businesses as well as representatives of competent state institutions dealing with tariff classification of goods:<\/p>\n\n

In the conference session “Activities of the Customs Laboratory and the Challenges of Tariff Classification of Goods for Business”<\/strong>, together with representatives of the Customs Laboratory and the Tax Disputes Commission under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, we listened to the presentations and had discussions on topics such as “Laboratory Investigations in Tax Disputes” and “Disputes of the Classification of Goods in the Tax Disputes Commission”.<\/p>\n\n

We are developing this topic, which is relevant for any person\/business entity involved in international trade, and elaborating on the issues discussed at the conference in new reviews published in December 2021 in both Lithuanian and English (Customs Law for Practitioners<\/strong> and Customs Compliance and Risk Management<\/strong>(<\/a>CCRM Journal)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n

They deal with the specificities of the linguistic interpretation of the main source of tariff classification of goods, the EU’s Combined Nomenclature, as well as with the most recent interpretations of the Court of Justice of the EU on these issues, as set out in the case C-706\/20, Amoena<\/em>, of September 2021 (reference to the interpretation as published by the CJEU:https:\/\/curia.europa.eu\/juris\/document\/document.jsf;jsessionid=6D0AEA0EB1452C0345807270F8648085?text=&docid=245942&pageIndex=0&doclang=EN&mode=lst&dir=&occ=first&part=1&cid=226131<\/a><\/p>\n\n
